"Drive out fear." That's W. Edwards Deming's eighth point from his seminal work, 14 Points for Management. At this AME Dine & Learn event, we'll dive deep into this idea in a thought-provoking, TED-style talk by Amy C. Edmondson, the world's leading expert on psychological safety and author of The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth. Based on her more than 20 years of research, she'll provide participants with insights on what psychological safety is and isn't and how it affects performance at all levels.
The fearless organization is one in which people feel willing and able to take the inherent interpersonal risks of being open, honest and candid with one another in order to maximize team and organizational performance. Here you'll discover what it takes to create a psychologically safe climate where people speak up, share ideas and information, take risks, and work with each other to create the type of environment that helps people to succeed and organizations to thrive.

Amy C. Edmondson is the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at the Harvard Business School, a chair established to support the study of human interactions that lead to the creation of successful enterprises that contribute to the betterment of society. She is an expert in leadership, teaming and organizational learning. Edmondson’s most recent book, "The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth" (Wiley; November, 2018) summarizes more than two decades of pioneering research on psychological safety. With articles in Harvard Business Review and California Management Review, and in academic journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly and the Academy of Management Journal, Amy has been recognized by the biannual Thinkers50 global ranking of management thinkers since 2011. She received her PhD in organizational behavior, her master’s in psychology, and her bachelor’s in engineering and design from Harvard University. Edmondson lives in Cambridge, Mass.
