This course is intended to prepare attendees to take and pass the Lean Bronze Certification Examination. On the first two days, attendees will be introduced to the Lean Certification Body of Knowledge, and will review the recommended reading materials from which all test questions are drawn.
The course includes practice exams and hands-on exercises to give students a good idea of what will be included in the exam and offers several takeaways that students will find useful on exam day.
On the third day, the Bronze Exam will be offered for those students who have signed up to take it.
NOTE: Students must sign up for the exam separately through SME at www.sme.org/leancert
The course will be led by Pat Wardwell, an experienced lean practitioner who has achieved the Gold level of Lean Certification. She is also a past member of the SME Lean Certification Oversight and Appeals Committee and is a Shingo Prize and AME Award Examiner.

What is Lean Certification
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME), Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence (Shingo Prize) and ASQ have partnered to develop a joint professional credential for lean practitioners.
Lean Certification assesses candidates’ lean knowledge (certification exam), their ability to apply that knowledge (as reflected in a written “improvement activities” portfolio) and their mentoring and coaching of others at the higher levels of certification.
Applicants can progress through three levels of Lean Certification (Bronze, Silver and Gold) that reflect an increasing knowledge of − and practical success in applying − lean concepts in the tactical, value stream or at strategic levels within organizations.
All candidates must begin the certification journey by taking the Lean Bronze Certification Examination. This course is designed to help applicants successfully complete this first step on the certification journey.
Benefits
Lean Bronze Certification indicates a person is capable of applying lean methods at the tactical level. This includes the deployment and application of lean principles, concepts and methods locally, within a work cell, work group or within a value stream. Specifically:
Course participants learn how the Lean Bronze Certification Exam is structured and how to focus their preparation activities.
Participants are provided with several handouts and practice exercises to assist them in preparing for and passing the exam.
Applicants who pass the exam can then submit their portfolio of projects, the next and final step in attaining Lean Bronze Certification.
