  • Deploying flow cells

Overview

JELD-WEN’s Grand Prairie facility started its lean transformation in mid-2021. Historically, a lean management system was absent from its strategy, and opportunities existed in culture, employee engagement, and shifting paradigms to improve the business. In the first nine months of its journey, the team started first pass lean activities on two of the five assembly lines. Results showed a 50 percent improvement in UPLH through the implementation of a tiered lean management system, deployment of flow cells, while simultaneously creating a culture of "everyone is a lean thinker."

See how the tiered management system is embedded in Grand Prairie’s culture. The process starts at hour x hour boards positioned at each work cell’s visual management center. Team leads manage for daily improvement; a collection of cell boards feed the value stream's visual management center; the value stream boards feed into a single site board; each tier has an established gemba mtg time and problem-solving team.

Learn how flow cells are utilized for team members driving lean initiatives to increase value for their customers. The flow cell model is broken into key categories: Standard work, 5S, one-piece flow, pull systems, visual management with the target to achieve takt time attainment. You will also learn how all JELD-WEN's team members are engaged and involved to foster lean thinking. Within this program, a transformation roadmap is established, visually tracking their strategic deployment plan.

Please note these additional safety restrictions: No hoodies or loose jewelry may be worn. Hair that falls below the shoulder must be tied back.
