Cummins' Columbus Mid-Range Engine Plant is either number one or number two in all critical KPIs within the Cummins Inc. business (global) structure. Discover how it has made major improvements in inventory reduction, quality (RFT) PPM improvements through implementing standardized work and a strong training program at all levels within the plant, from the operator to the plant manager. Learn about the company's mini-business management and 8-step problem-solving techniques. Hear how Cummins builds and ships the Chrysler Dodge Ram 6.7 liter engine daily to its truck plant, Saltillo Assembly Plant, in Coahuila, Mexico. It also ships daily to Freightliner, located in Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico.

Presenter: Walter Miller

Walter Miller is the director of operation excellence at Cummins Mid-Range Engine Plant. He has worked in many positions as a continuous improvement leader and coach at all levels of the organization. Over the last 23 years, he has held positions with front-line management, as well as senior level management within manufacturing and supply chain settings. Miller is co-author of People - A leader's Day-to-day Guide to Building, Managing and Sustaining Lean Organizations, a 2014 Shingo Prize Research Award recipient. He holds a master’s degree in business management and is a certified six sigma green belt. Miller is a Navy veteran and worked as a material specialist. While in the Navy, he was also a member of the Blue Angels and Black Programs leading supply chain functions.
