On this year's Arbor Day, I am reminded of a simple concept: growth takes time, care and the right environment to thrive. If you could see my house, I have plants — long anticipated not to survive — actually flourishing. Lots of care and the right environment has sustained them for decades.
Arbor Day is more than a celebration of trees. It reminds us to shape the future we leave behind. In many ways, this mirrors the work we do together at AME.
Just as trees require strong roots, sunlight and consistent care, organizations require strong leadership, engaged people and systems that support continuous improvement. At AME, we have long believed that operational excellence is not a destination. It is a living system that must be cultivated every day through people, purpose and discipline.
This message aligns strongly with our upcoming AME Southeast Charlotte Summit on May 5-7 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The summit is an opportunity for leaders across industries to come together, share best practices and strengthen the “forest” of organizations that make up our regional and global manufacturing community.
In many ways, the summit is our Arbor Day moment:
- We plant innovative ideas through shared learning.
- We strengthen our roots through leadership development.
- We share, learn and grow through collaboration and innovation.
- And we invest in the future of people-centered manufacturing systems.
As we celebrate Arbor Day, I encourage each of you to reflect on what you are planting within your own organizations. I look forward to seeing you at the AME Charlotte 2026 Lean Summit. It is not too late to join us.
As always, please stay safe and keep looking out for one another.
