Lean in Healthcare: Gemba Walk of MGH Center of Comparative Medicine

Overview

MGH is hosting a gemba walk tour of our animal research facility to showcase lean strategies in a healthcare setting. Attendees will have a chance to visit our facilities, talk with our staff about our processes and culture, and discuss as a group what is working well and where we could use lean tools to keep improving. Highlights will include huddle boards, visual controls, kanban systems, employee recognition, and problem solving.

Presenter

Corinna Beale, DVM, SRS, DACLAM: Dr. Corinna Beale got her DVM from Tufts Veterinary School in 2009, earned her surgical research specialist certificate in 2014, and become a diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine in 2020. She is currently an instructor for the department of surgery at Harvard Medical School and adjunct faculty at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine. Corinna joined the board of directors for the Northeast Branch of AME and the Foundation for Biomedical Research in 2025. In late 2023, she joined Mass General Hospital as director and attending veterinarian for the Center for Comparative Medicine which focuses on continuous improvement, advancement of animal welfare, and preclinical animal research.
