Manufacturing is not just about what we make

October 2 was Manufacturing Day!

I love this day. Not just because I love manufacturing (which I obviously do!), but because Manufacturing Day gives us a chance to stop for a minute and celebrate something that is easy to take for granted: The people who make things happen.

Every day, millions of people walk into factories, plants, warehouses, engineering offices, labs and operations centers and do something pretty amazing. They solve problems, make improvements and figure out how to make something safer, faster, better, smarter and more reliable.  And most of the time, they don't get a lot of applause for it.

That's where AME comes in. Our mission has always been about bringing people together to share, learn and grow - practitioner to practitioner. Manufacturing Day is a pretty great reminder of why that matters.

Because manufacturing isn't just about machines, technology, robotics, AI or automation. It's about people.

Manufacturing Day and month is a wonderful opportunity to open our doors,  literally and figuratively, and show students, educators, families and our communities what modern manufacturing really looks like. Because as we know, there are some pretty incredible careers waiting inside those four walls.

So, AME friends, let's celebrate Manufacturing Day this month and all year!  Take someone on a plant tour. Introduce a student to someone in your organization. Share a story about how your team solved a problem. Invite someone into your workplace who may never have considered a career in manufacturing.  And if you are already doing something for Manufacturing Day, tell us about it!

Post a picture. Share a story. Show the people behind the process.

Use #MFGDay26 and let's help the world see what we already know -  Manufacturing is not just about what we make. It's about the people who make it possible.

And speaking of people...

We are less than 3 weeks away from bringing our AME family together in Milwaukee for the AME 2026 International Conference.

Our theme could not be more appropriate: People First, Progress Together - a yes, and approach to enterprise excellence.

If you haven't registered for Milwaukee yet…what are you waiting for? I can't wait to see you there!

As always, please stay safe and keep looking out for one another.
