From the CEO: A hull is to a ship what people are to an organization

Each year, the U.S. Navy invites a select few to attend its Distinguished Visitor Embark, a rare experience to witness life aboard a Navy aircraft carrier. For years, this was one of my bucket list items. In 2010, I was finally able to live that dream. I landed, stayed the night and took off from the Harry S. Truman, CVN 75, a carrier that I follow to this day. Watching our Naval men and women navigate the carrier, fly and land jets, and work collaboratively was the experience of a lifetime.

Harry S. Truman once said, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” The former president was well-known for his style of servant leadership, a philosophy of serving others above all other priorities. This quote comes to mind often when I think of AME's people-centric leadership (PCL) model, which engages employees at every level, from the front line to the CEO.

AME has a clear vision: "A manufacturing renaissance driven by PCL coupled with enterprise excellence." PCL is all about building trust and strong relationships. I believe that we see this every day in AME in our Home Team, board members and volunteers. People feel heard and appreciated. Why is this so important? A hull is to a ship what people are to an organization.

AME strives to create people-centric leaders through everything it touches, from its AME Lean Sensei® tool to its regional events and summits, awards programming, and annual international conference. On June 14-23, AME will host its next virtual PCL 101 workshop. The PCL 101 course features experiences, discussions and a lecture founded on leading research to drive introspection and personal development. You can learn more about our PCL training and resources on our website.

I am also excited to share with you our newest AME Dallas 2022 keynote trailer from Gary Michel, the chairman, president and CEO of JELD- WEN, Inc. In this short video, he discusses the importance of embracing disruption as a catalyst for business growth and the challenges organizations face in staying competitive today. You can still save 20 percent on AME Dallas 2022 when you register by June 30. I look forward to seeing you there!

As always, please stay safe and keep looking out for one another.
