Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is the nation's sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two shipyards capable of designing and building nuclear-powered submarines. NNS also provides fleet services for naval ships and recently expanded its nuclear and manufacturing expertise into Department of Energy and alternative energy business ventures. Rob Hogan is vice president of manufacturing for Newport News Shipbuilding, responsible for manufacturing and manufacturing planning, supporting all shipbuilding programs. He began his career with the shipyard in 1976 as a welder and has held positions at all levels of production and construction leadership. In 2004, he became director of process excellence and in 2009 was appointed director of manufacturing for steel fabrication. Hogan won the NNS President's Model of Excellence Award in 1998 for his process improvement initiatives in manufacturing. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Strayer University. He is chairman of the Virginia Manufacturers Association, serves on the board of directors for CCAM (Commonwealth Center for Advance Manufacturing) and is active in the American Welding Society, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and AME. He is also a member of the Newport News Shipbuilding President's Safety Cabinet and the Apprentice School Alumni Association.
