Overview

New Horizons Regional Education Centers is the largest of the nine regional centers in the state of Virginia, serving approximately 1,500 public school students and another 1,200 adults per year. With the increasing demand for experienced employees in manufacturing jobs, NHREC is educating students with the hands-on skills employers are seeking.

During this tour, you will hear what day-to-day life is like for high school students who plan to pursue a career in welding when they graduate. You will see their welding lab up close and learn what skills they will leave the program with.

After the tour, executive director Casey Roberts will give an overview of how New Horizons prepares students for career, college and life. Roberts will also discuss how the organization has grown and plans on expanding the programs during this upcoming school year to help meet industry needs in the Commonwealth. As the executive director, Roberts is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision and strategic development of seven regional programs of six participating school divisions. The tour will conclude with a live Q&A.
