TGC culture of care and continuous improvement

OVERVIEW
The Gund Company operates on a strong foundation of care and continuous improvement, embedded in all aspects of its operations. This begins with intentionally building a team of strong contributors and creating an environment where team members feel respected, supported and heard. When individuals feel safe to share ideas, meaningful improvement follows.

The company’s Care and Continuous Improvement (CI) framework provides the structure that enables team members at all levels to engage in effective communication, leverage visual management systems and take ownership of identifying and solving opportunities. This approach empowers team members to actively drive improvements rather than react to change.

During the tour, the Gund Company Milwaukee team will discuss how it evaluates and develops team members through the lens of its core values and how those values are reflected in daily work. The team will share details about development programs, coaching methods and feedback processes, highlighting how the organization listens to and supports team members. These practices strengthen communication while identifying opportunities for individual and organizational improvement.

Participants will also see visual management tools in action and learn how the company captures, tracks and implements team member ideas. On the shop floor, the tour will showcase processes along with examples of past and current continuous improvement projects. Tour guides will share real stories behind these efforts, many of which originated from operator insights, everyday challenges or safety observations, demonstrating how small ideas can lead to meaningful change.

The company’s roots in the electrical industry span five generations, tracing back to the founding of Bussmann Manufacturing Company by Al Bussmann Sr., the great-grandfather of President Stephen Gund.

The Gund Company was established in 1951 by Ed Gund and, over the past 70 years, has grown into one of the largest manufacturers and fabricators of composite, thermoplastic and elastomeric materials, serving the electrical industry with electrical insulation as its core business.
