All leaders want a lean transformation to succeed but may not know how to or where to start. Discover a breakdown of sponsors, leaders and coaches, and what type of knowledge and behaviors are necessary to implement a lean culture in an organization. Syngenta AG is a Swiss-based global company that produces agrochemicals and seeds. As a biotechnology company, it conducts genomic research. It was formed in 2000 by the merger of Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals. As of 2014, Syngenta is the world’s largest crop chemical producer. As of 2009, it ranked third in seeds and biotechnology sales. Sales in 2015 were approximately US$13.4 billion, over half of which were in emerging markets. It is owned by ChemChina, a Chinese state-owned enterprise. Syngenta is a business that helps humanity face its toughest challenge: how to feed a rising population, sustainably. Its world-class science and innovative crop solutions transform how crops are grown to enable millions of growers to make better use of available resources.

Luciana Toda is the business improvement manager lead for North America at Syngenta Seeds. At Syngenta, she has held various positions in Hawaii and North Carolina working in different agriculture position, seed quality scientists and in a full-time CI role. She is currently working in cross-functional projects with sites in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Chile, Guatemala, and Kenya. Toda has an MS degree from the University of Nebraska, and an undergraduate in agronomic engineering from UNESP-Jaboticabal-SP. 

Jim Sorosiak is a business operations leader at Syngenta and lean six sigma master black belt with a proven track record of success leading high impact business process initiatives that deliver operations excellence in global commercial, federal government and the department of defense. He has 30 years of global business experience and a strong background in quality management, production management, and process improvement practices. Sorosiak is also certified in theory of constraints and in quality engineering.
