Abbott Diagnostics Distribution Center, located in Lake County, is 345,000 sq. ft. of storage (i.e. 15C to 30C, 2C to 8C, -20C) that utilizes an automated pick-by-light system for less than case quantities along with traditional full pallet and full case processing areas. Many of the shipments are temperature controlled or hazardous requiring a high level of compliance. Value add services are provided for customers utilizing Abbott’s RFID inventory management system.

At this distribution center tour, see a pick-to-light system that handles up to 1500 orders per day/shift, as well as packing stations with visual work instructions that increased packaging output by 29 percent. Learn more about how the site developed recycling partnerships with customers and suppliers, and how it implemented a packaging optimization program. Hear about the site’s tiered meetings and “Good Catch” safety program.
